Charizard's name is a combination of "Char" and "Lizard." The Japanese name, Rizaadon, is probably a combination of a pronunciation of the word "Lizard" and the Japanese word Don, which will be translated soon.
In Pokémon Red/Blue, Yellow and Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Charizard can be obtained by evolving Charmeleon. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Charizard is not available at all.
Charizard is vulnerable to Water, Electric, Rock and (in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow) Ice, and strong against Fire, Bug, Grass, Steel, Fighting and Ground.Availability
