Charizard (Rizaadon in Romaji Japanese) is a Stage 2 fire-type Pokémon that evolves from Charmeleon at level 36. Unlike its predecessors Charmander and Charmeleon, Charizard has the ability to fly; it also possesses Charmeleon's fiery breath, which it uses as its primary attack weapon. Charizard's fiery breath is hot enough to melt rock, and it has been known to cause forest fires unintentionally.

Name Origin

Charizard's name is a combination of "Char" and "Lizard." The Japanese name, Rizaadon, is probably a combination of a pronunciation of the word "Lizard" and the Japanese word Don, which will be translated soon.

Availability

In Pokémon Red/Blue, Yellow and Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Charizard can be obtained by evolving Charmeleon. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Charizard is not available at all.

Strengths / Weaknesses

Charizard is vulnerable to Water, Electric, Rock and (in Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow) Ice, and strong against Fire, Bug, Grass, Steel, Fighting and Ground.
