Charmeleon's name is a combination of "Char" and "Chameleon." His Japanese name is probably a pronunciation of the word "Lizard."
In Pokémon Red/Blue, Yellow and Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Charmeleon can be obtained by evolving Charmander. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Charmeleon is not available at all.
Charmeleon is vulnerable to Water, Ground and Rock, and strong against Fire, Bug, Grass, Steel and (in Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal) Ice.Availability
