Metapod's name is probably a combination of "Metamorphose" and "Pod." Its Japanese name, Toranseru, is probably a pronunciation of "Trans-" and "Cell."
In Pokémon Red/Blue, Yellow and Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Metapod can be obtained by evolving Caterpie; alternatively, it can be found in the same locations as Caterpie. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Metapod is not available at all.
Metapod is vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Rock and - in Pokémon Red/Blue - Poison, and strong against Grass, Ground and Fighting.Availability
