In Pokémon Red/Blue and Pokémon Yellow, Caterpie can be found in the Viridian Forest. In Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Caterpie can be found in the National Park, and - in Gold and Crystal - in Ilex Forest. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Caterpie is not available at all.
Caterpie is vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Rock and - in Pokémon Red/Blue - Poison, and strong against Grass, Ground and Fighting.
