Martinez is a town located in Columbia County, Georgia and is a suburb of Augusta, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 27,749.

Geography

Martinez is located at 33°30'58" North, 82°6'0" West (33.516089, -82.100024)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 32.8 km² (12.7 mi²). 32.6 km² (12.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.87% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 27,749 people, 9,886 households, and 8,037 families residing in the town. The population density is 852.3/km² (2,207.1/mi²). There are 10,320 housing units at an average density of 317.0/km² (820.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 83.98% White, 8.02% African American, 0.23% Native American, 5.60% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. 2.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,886 households out of which 44.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.2% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% are non-families. 15.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.80 and the average family size is 3.13.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $58,069, and the median income for a family is $62,929. Males have a median income of $45,714 versus $28,280 for females.
