According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 797 km² (308 mi²). 751 km² (290 mi²) of it is land and 46 km² (18 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.77% water.


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 89,288 people, 31,120 households, and 25,362 families residing in the county. The population density is 119/km² (308/mi²). There are 33,321 housing units at an average density of 44/km² (115/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 82.67% White, 11.21% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 3.36% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.80% from other races, and 1.56% from two or more races. 2.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,120 households out of which 44.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.50% are married couples living together, 10.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.50% are non-families. 15.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.85 and the average family size is 3.18.

In the county the population is spread out with 29.60% under the age of 18, 7.30% from 18 to 24, 31.00% from 25 to 44, 24.10% from 45 to 64, and 8.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $55,682, and the median income for a family is $61,232. Males have a median income of $44,184 versus $27,336 for females. The per capita income for the county is $23,496. 5.10% of the population and 4.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.60% are under the age of 18 and 8.10% are 65 or older.
