Bombardment of Shimonoseki

Bombardment of Shimonoseki happened in Shimonoseki in the late shogunate period.

In reprisal for Choshu attacks on foreign ships, naval forces from four countries, the U.S, Great Britain, Holland, and France attacked forts in Choshu. They also landed forces to complete the destruction of the forts. Choshu quickly made peace.
