Winslow is a town located in Kennebec County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 7,743.

Geography

United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 100.3 km² (38.7 mi²). 95.4 km² (36.8 mi²) of it is land and 4.8 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.83% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 7,743 people, 3,268 households, and 2,212 families residing in the town. The population density is 81.1/km² (210.1/mi²). There are 3,591 housing units at an average density of 37.6 persons/km² (97.4 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.05% White, 0.13% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,268 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.7% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 32.3% are non-families. 26.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.83. In the town the population is spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.0 males.
