# Standardized moment

statistics, the

**standardized moment** of a

probability distribution is μ

_{k}/σ

^{k}, where μ

_{k} is the

*k*th

moment about the mean and σ is the

standard deviation.

The third and fourth standardized moments are used to define skewness and kurtosis.
