SeaTac, Washington

SeaTac is a city and outlying suburb of Seattle, located in the southern section of King County in Washington State. It takes its name from the fact that it is located nearly equidistantly between Seattle and Tacoma. It is home to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which is also referred to as Sea-Tac (note the hyphen). As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 25,496.

Geography

SeaTac is located at 47°26'29" North, 122°17'35" West (47.441406, -122.293077)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 26.2 km² (10.1 mi²). 25.8 km² (10.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.68% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 25,496 people, 9,708 households, and 5,960 families residing in the city. The population density is 988.4/km² (2,558.8/mi²). There are 10,176 housing units at an average density of 394.5/km² (1,021.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 62.86% White, 9.15% African American, 1.50% Native American, 11.07% Asian, 2.66% Pacific Islander, 6.41% from other races, and 6.35% from two or more races. 12.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,708 households out of which 30.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.8% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.6% are non-families. 30.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 34.5% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 110.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 111.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $41,202, and the median income for a family is $47,630. Males have a median income of $34,396 versus $28,984 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,717. 11.5% of the population and 9.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.5% are under the age of 18 and 8.1% are 65 or older.
