census of 2000, there are 3,785 people, 1,205 households, and 761 families residing in the town. The population density is 3,398.6/km² (8,901.6/mi²). There are 1,337 housing units at an average density of 1,200.5/km² (3,144.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 65.79% White, 16.41% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.63% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 12.76% from other races, and 3.70% from two or more races. 43.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,205 households out of which 42.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.0% are married couples living together, 20.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% are non-families. 22.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.02 and the average family size is 3.46. In the town the population is spread out with 31.1% under the age of 18, 16.1% from 18 to 24, 33.6% from 25 to 44, 13.0% from 45 to 64, and 6.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 26 years. For every 100 females there are 120.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 129.1 males.
