Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 107.7 km² (41.6 mi²). 105.1 km² (40.6 mi²) of it is land and 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.36% water.
Oceanside is home to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, one of the California missions.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 161,029 people, 56,488 households, and 39,259 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,531.7/km² (3,967.2/mi²). There are 59,581 housing units at an average density of 566.7/km² (1,467.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 66.36% White, 6.33% African American, 0.85% Native American, 5.52% Asian, 1.27% Pacific Islander, 14.50% from other races, and 5.17% from two or more races. 30.24% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 56,488 households out of which 35.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.1% are married couples living together, 11.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% are non-families. 22.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.83 and the average family size is 3.33.
In the city the population is spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 10.2% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males.
