Joachim Murat

Joachim Murat (March 25, 1767 - October 13, 1815) was the King of Naples, in Italy, from 1808 to 1815.

Born as the son of an innkeeper he rose in the French army to the rank of a general. He married Napoleon Bonaparte's sister Caroline in 1800, and was made a Marshal of France on May 18, 1804. He was appointed grand duke of Berg in 1806, and in 1808 to king of Naples.

After the fall of Napoleon he had to resign from his throne, and was arrested and executed after a failed attempt to regain it.
