Hopkinton is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Hopkinton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,628.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.0 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.60% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,628 people, 1,003 households, and 672 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 611.3/km² (1,584.3/mi²). There are 1,024 housing units at an average density of 238.2 persons/km² (617.3 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.18% White, 0.34% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.91% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 2.05% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,003 households out of which 34.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.4% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 33.0% are non-families. 28.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.5% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 85.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $52,250, and the median income for a family is $68,050. Males have a median income of $48,050 versus $37,862 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $23,878. 3.3% of the population and 2.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 5.1% are under the age of 18 and 4.0% are 65 or older.
