Great Galveston Hurricane

The Great Galveston Hurricane made landfall on the city of Galveston, Texas on September 8, 1900, with estimated winds of 135 miles per hour, making it a Category 4 storm with similar magnitude to hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Signifcant to this storm was the loss of life, which is estimated by some sources as 6,000, and others as 12,000.
