Frankfurt-Hahn Airport

Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is an international aviation facility in the Rhein-Hunsrück district, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Despite its name it is about 120 km west of Frankfurt.

The airport was originally the US airbase Hahn, which was converted to a civil airport after the US air force no longer needed it. One of the main investors was the Fraport AG, who also runs Frankfurt International Airport, to reduce the amount of traffic on their main airport. The Hahn airport does not use the word international on its name so passengers do not confuse it with the more commonly used larger facility. As the airport is a low-cost airport due to its remote location, it's very popular for low-cost airlines like Ryanair, who use Frankfurt-Hahn as their hub.

Frankfurt-Hahn can handle planes up to the size of a large Boeing 747 jet.
