Domingo Faustino Sarmiento

Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (11 September 181115 February 1888) was an Argentine statesman, educator, and author.

Sarmiento was born in San Juan.

He was president of Argentina from 1868 to 1874.

Sarmiento was a prolific writer; his best known work is Facundo (1845), an in-depth study of caudillismo and personalism in politics.

He died in Asunción (Paraguay)
