Cowes

Cowes is a seaport town on the Isle of Wight, an island off the south coast of England, on the west bank of the estuary of the River Medina. It has a population of about 16,000. Ferries run from Cowes to the Solent ports of Southampton and Portsmouth, as well as East Cowes, which is on the opposite side of the estuary to Cowes.

The town gives its name to the yachting festival Cowes Week and is home to the Royal Yachting Squadron. It is also noted as the place where the first hovercraft was tested.
