Bulbasaur (Fushigidane in Romaji Japanese) is a basic grass-type Pokémon that evolves into Ivysaur at level 16 and Venusaur at level 32. Bulbasaur is a lizard-like creature with a large bulb on its back; the bulb grows with the Pokémon and contains energy that the Pokémon can use up when necessary, similar to a camel storing water in its hump.

Name Origin

His name is a shortening of "Bulb Dinosaur." His Japanese name, Fushigidane, probably means "Mystery Seed."

Availability

In Pokémon Red/Blue, Bulbasaur is one of the starter Pokémon, together with Charmander and Squirtle. In Pokémon Yellow, Bulbasaur is not a starter; rather, it's obtained in Cerulean City. In Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal, Bulbasaur must be obtained through trading with another cartridge. In Pokémon Sapphire/Ruby, Bulbasaur is not available at all.

Bulbasaur also appears in the Nintendo 64 game Pokémon Snap.

Strengths / Weaknesses

Bulbasaur is vulnerable to Ice, Bug, Fire, Psychic and Flying, and strong against Water, Electric, Grass, and Fighting.
