The census area has a total area of 36,562 km² (14,117 mi²). 11,388 km² (4,397 mi²) of it is land and 25,174 km² (9,720 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 68.85% water.

The racial makeup of the census area is 40.04% White, 3.02% Black or African American, 20.95% Native American, 24.59% Asian, 0.62% Pacific Islander, 7.32% from other races, and 3.46% from two or more races. 10.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,270 households out of which 35.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.00% are married couples living together, 7.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.00% are non-families. 32.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.26.
