Adams George Archibald

Sir Adams George Archibald (1814-1892) was a Canadian lawyer and politician, and a father of Canadian Confederation. After serving as Solicitor General and Attorney General for Nova Scotia, he became the leader of the provincial Liberals in 1863. He attended all three Confederation conferences, and entered the federal Cabinet in 1867 as the first Secretary of State. From 1870 to 1873 he was Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba and the Northwest Territories, and from 1873 to 1883 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.
