In the anime series Nadesico, Misumaru Yurika (御統ユリカ) is the (rather ditzy) Captain of the Nadesico. Despite her awkwardness, she is actually qualified for the position (scoring optimally on the simulators), unlike most figure-head captains of her day, and her father is an admiral in the UEF (United Earth Forces). She, like Akito (whom she adores) was also born on Mars, but left before the war begins.
Aside from swooning over Akito, she does occasionally make a good move and the Nadesico benefits, but her swooning can also put the crew in jeopardy as well. Toward the end she begins to become a Gekigangar 3 otaku. Akito and she finally do get married at the end of the series, which opens up the door for Prince of Darkness...
