William Bartram

William Bartram (1739 -1823), American naturalist, son of John Bartram.

William accompanied his father on many of his travels, and in 1773 set off alone on a four year journey through eight southern colonies. He made many drawings and took notes on the native flora and fauna, and the native American Indians. In 1791 he published his journal as Travels, now considered to be one of the foremost books on American natural history.
