William Alexander

William Alexander (1726-1783) was an American major general born in New York. He was known as Lord Sterling, because he claimed that he was the rightful heir to the earldom of Stirling, Scotland. Although he spent a great deal of money in trying to prove it, he was unsuccessful.

He was a strong patriot and fought in many of the important battles of the American Revolutionary War.

He died in Albany, New York.
