Westwood, Los Angeles, CaliforniaWestwood
or Westwood Village
is a district within the city of Los Angeles, California
known for its proximity to the University of California, Los Angeles
(UCLA). A center of movie-going in West Los Angeles--and the site of many movie premieres--it is home to several vintage theaters, including the Pacific Crest, the Fox Village and the Bruin. It is also home to Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery
, the last resting place of many of Hollywood's biggest stars. Developed by the Janss family in the 1920s, the small shopping district retains its cozy village atmosphere even as high-rises go up around it and the nearby 405 freeway and the Wilshire-Westwood intersection traffic in tens of thousands of cars per day.
