West Crow Wing is an unorganized territory located in Crow Wing County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the unorganized territory had a total population of 5,144.

Geography

\nAccording to the
United States Census Bureau, the unorganized territory has a total area of 126.4 km² (48.8 mi²). 91.0 km² (35.1 mi²) of it is land and 35.4 km² (13.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 27.99% water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 5,144 people, 1,870 households, and 1,477 families residing in the unorganized territory. The population density is 56.5/km² (146.4/mi²). There are 2,387 housing units at an average density of 26.2/km² (67.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the unorganized territory is 98.60% White, 0.08% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,870 households out of which 38.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.3% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% are non-families. 16.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.07. In the unorganized territory the population is spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older.
