Wessington Springs is a city located in Jerauld County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,011. It is the county seat of Jerauld County6.

census of 2000, there are 1,011 people, 505 households, and 285 families residing in the city. The population density is 221.8/km² (572.9/mi²). There are 580 housing units at an average density of 127.2/km² (328.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.01% White, 0.00% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.40% from two or more races. 0.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 505 households out of which 16.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 43.4% are non-families. 39.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 26.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.92 and the average family size is 2.50. In the city the population is spread out with 15.4% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 15.6% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 40.5% who are 65 years of age or older.
