Web services description language

The Web Services Description Language V 1.1 is an XML format published but not endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium for describing Web services. The supported operations and messages are described abstractly, and then bound to a concrete network protocol and message format. The World Wide Web Consortium is now working on a new version, version 1.2, that will be an official standard and thus endorsed by the W3C.

It is commonly abbreviated as WSDL in technical literature.
