, though today the City of Waterford is administered separately from the county, which has its seat in Dungarvan.
Founded by the Vikings in the mid-800s, Waterford was Ireland's first true city. Today, with a population of 44,564 (census 2002), Waterford is the fifth largest city in the Republic of Ireland.
Its most famous product is Waterford Crystal which originated here when a glassmaking factory was opened in the city in 1783.
