Waiblingen

Waiblingen is a city in the southwest of Germany, located in the center of the densely populated region Mittlerer Neckarraum near Stuttgart. It is the capital of the Rems-Murr district. As of June 30, 2002 Waiblingen accommodated 52,685 inhabitants (25,827 men and 26,858 women).

As of October 1, 2000 the area of the city (including all external proprieties, such as forests) was 4,276 ha.

The city was first mentioned in 885.

Almost the entire city has been destroyed (1634) during the Thirty Years War, the citizens either killed or deported. Rebuilt after the war.

The existing core part of the town dates back to the years between 1640 and 1700. Its fortifications are now nicely restored.
