Voyager (aircraft)

On December 14th, 1986, Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager embarked on a mission to fly around the world without stopping or refueling in a craft named Voyager. Their flight ended successfully 9 days, 3 minutes and 44 seconds later, on December 23, 1986. They flew 26,366 statue miles (the FAI accredited distance is 40,212 km) at an average altitude of 11,000 feet.

The aircraft was designed by Dick's brother Burt Rutan, a well known airplane designer. The craft weighs 939 pounds when empty, fully loaded it weighed 9,694.5 pounds. It was build in Mojave, California over a period of 5 years. It is now on display at the Smithsonian Institute's Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.
