Viracopos

Viracopos is the name of Campinas International Airport. Besides being a busy passenger terminal, it is the second-largest cargo airport in Brazil. One of its main features is that it is rarely closed due to bad weather conditions (a mean of 5 days per year).

The airport is located 90 km (58 miles) from São Paulo and 14 km (8 miles) from Campinas, close by the huge Bandeirantes and Anhanguera highway complex which connects the capital city to the interior.

Main facilities and statistics are:

  1. 150-180 flights per day
  2. 2,500 passengers/day
  3. 40 cargo airline companies.
  4. 3,240 m runway
  5. 60,000 square meters of cargo terminals.
  6. 1,700 square meters for animal cargo
  7. 1,480 cubic meters of refrigerated space
  8. 65 m high air traffic control tower.

As a major import/export hub, Viracopos enjoys exceptionally (for the country) quick and unbureaucratic 'express lanes' for courier traffic.
