Unterseeboot 460

Unterseeboot 460 (U-460) was a Type XIV U-boat ("Milchkuh") of the Kriegsmarine. Her keel was laid down November 30, 1940 by Deutsche Werke of Kiel. She was commissioned December 24, 1941, with Kapitänleutnant Friedrich Schäfer in command. On August 1, 1942, Schäfer was relieved by Kptlt. Ebe Schnoor.

U-460 conducted six patrols. As a supply boat, she avoided combat.

On October 4, 1943, U-460 was sunk in the North Atlantic north of the Azores by depth charges from Avenger and Wildcat (VC-9) of the American escort carrier USS Card. Two crewmen survived; 62 were killed.
