Thomas Abbt

Thomas Abbt (1738 - 1766) was a mathematician and German writer born at Ulm in 1738. He studied at the University of Halle and in 1761 was appointed professor of mathematics at the University of Rinteln. While there he wrote his most well known works, Vom Verdienste (1765) and Ueber den Tod fur Vaterland (1761).

Later in life he was invited by Count William of Lippe-Schauenberg to his court at Buckeburg where he stayed until his death in 1766.
