The Thief of Bagdad

The Thief of Bagdad is a 1924 swashbuckler film which tells the story of a thief who falls in love with the daughter of the Caliph. It stars Douglas Fairbanks, Snitz Edwards, Charles Belcher, Julanne Johnston, Sojin, Anna May Wong and Brandon Hurst.

It was written by Fairbanks and Lotta Woods and directed by Raoul Walsh. The film has been deemed "culturally significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

The 1940 film version of The Thief of Bagdad is notable for being in colour and having special effects which were impressive for their day. It was a joint UK/USA production, directed by Michael Powell and Ludwig Berger, and starring child actor Sabu.

Although the two films have some similarities they have very different plots and probably deserve separate entries.
