The Manciple's Prologue and Tale

This is a tale from Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.

January is an old knight gone blind. He marries May for sex. She marries him for the money when he dies. She secretly sets up an affair with Damien. One day Damien is hiding in a tree in January's secret garden. January and May have sex and afterwards May wants a pear from the tree. January is blind and cannot get the pear, so he lifts May into the tree. While in the tree Damien and May have sex. The gods Pluto and Persephone watching the affair grant January his sight back. He sees them having sex and May convinces him that he is still blind because there is no way she would do that to him.
