The Country Girl

The Country Girl is a 1915 silent film, starring Florence La Badie. In 1954 an updated version of the film was made which tells the story of a has-been singer/actor who is given one last chance to star in a musical, only to have his alcoholism hinder his chances. It stars Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly and William Holden.

The movie was adapted by George Seaton from the play by Clifford Odets. It was directed by Seaton.

It won Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Grace Kelly) and Best Writing, Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Bing Crosby), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Black-and-White, Best Cinematography, Black-and-White, Best Director and Best Picture.
