Teranesia
Teranesia is a novel by
Greg Egan. It is Egan's most character-driven novel to date. The novel's single hard science element deals with
molecular genetics and
quantum computing. However, most of the novel focuses on south-east
Asian politics, repressed childhood
guilt,
evolutionary biology and
academic life. There is some focus on
sexuality: this time the lead character is merely
gay (rather than some of the more advanced alternatives in other novels). One of the most memorable passages is a savage lampoon of some of the excesses of
postmodernism.
