Technical diving

Technical diving is SCUBA diving that exceeds the scope of recreational or open-water diving. This includes:

• Wreck diving - diving inside a shipwreck.
• Cave diving - diving into a cave system.
• Deep diving - typically diving below 100 feet / 30 meters.
• Decompression diving - diving requiring staged stops at the end of a dive to off gas nitrogen.
• Ice diving - diving under ice.

Technical divers often breathe artificial gas mixtures, such as:

• Nitrox
• Trimix
• Heliox
