Teays Valley is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Putnam County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, Teays Valley had a total population of 12,704.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Teays Valley CDP has a total area of 19.2 km² (7.4 mi²). 19.0 km² (7.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 12,704 people, 4,789 households, and 3,749 families residing in Teays Valley. The population density is 668.3/km² (1,730.0/mi²). There are 5,062 housing units at an average density of 266.3/km² (689.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.39% White, 0.94% African American, 0.11% Native American, 1.59% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 0.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,789 households out of which 39.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% are married couples living together, 9.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.7% are non-families. 19.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.00.

The age distribution in Teays Valley is: 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 92.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.6 males.

The median income for a Teays Valley household is $53,053, and the median income for a family is $62,711. Males have a median income of $52,083 versus $27,036 for females. The per capita income is $24,236. 8.1% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.6% are under the age of 18 and 8.0% are 65 or older.
