Tārgovişte is a city in the Dāmboviţa county of Romania and has a population of 109,000.

First atested in 1396, in the "Travel memories" of Johannes Schiltberger, it became the capital of the Wallachian voivodship, probably during the reign of Mircea cel Bătrān, the time which the Royal Court ("Curtea Domnească") was built. Vlad Ţepeş built the Chindia Tower, now a symbol of the city.
