Syracuse is a town located in Kosciusko County, Indiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,038.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.0 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 16.15% water.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 3,038 people, 1,236 households, and 779 families residing in the town. The population density is 728.6/km² (1,888.5/mi²). There are 1,380 housing units at an average density of 330.9/km² (857.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 93.75% White, 0.86% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 2.67% from other races, and 1.78% from two or more races. 4.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,236 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.1% are married couples living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.9% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.98. In the town the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.5 males. The median income for a household in the town is $40,000, and the median income for a family is $45,968. Males have a median income of $34,526 versus $22,820 for females.
