Spring Valley is a village located in Rockland County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 25,464.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 25,464 people, 7,566 households, and 5,523 families residing in the village. The population density is 4,681.8/km² (12,122.7/mi²). There are 7,812 housing units at an average density of 1,436.3/km² (3,719.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 38.23% White, 43.98% African American, 0.40% Native American, 5.56% Asian, 0.25% Pacific Islander, 5.33% from other races, and 6.26% from two or more races. 15.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 7,566 households out of which 42.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.4% are married couples living together, 21.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% are non-families. 20.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.33 and the average family size is 3.79. In the village the population is spread out with 32.1% under the age of 18, 10.7% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.0 males. The median income for a household in the village is $41,311, and the median income for a family is $42,097. Males have a median income of $31,182 versus $26,350 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,861. 18.7% of the population and 15.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 24.2% are under the age of 18 and 16.5% are 65 or older.
