South Paris is a town located in Oxford County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,237. It is the county seat of Oxford County6.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.2 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.0 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.03% water.

Demographics

census of 2000, there are 2,237 people, 972 households, and 536 families residing in the town. The population density is 222.6/km² (577.1/mi²). There are 1,052 housing units at an average density of 104.7/km² (271.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.32% White, 0.36% African American, 0.18% Native American, 1.34% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 972 households out of which 25.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.5% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.8% are non-families. 36.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.84. In the town the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 9.9% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 90.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.3 males.
