South Mahoning Township is a township located in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,852.

census of 2000, there are 1,852 people, 616 households, and 481 families residing in the township. The population density is 25.0/km² (64.8/mi²). There are 677 housing units at an average density of 9.1/km² (23.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 99.51% White, 0.05% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.11% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 616 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.5% are married couples living together, 4.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.9% are non-families. 18.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.01 and the average family size is 3.49. In the township the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.8 males. The median income for a household in the township is $32,308, and the median income for a family is $34,556. Males have a median income of $28,688 versus $20,375 for females.
