South Eliot is a town located in York County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,445.

Geography

South Eliot is located at 43°6'53" North, 70°47'45" West (43.114618, -70.795855)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 19.7 km² (7.6 mi²). 18.6 km² (7.2 mi²) of it is land and 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.53% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 3,445 people, 1,386 households, and 988 families residing in the town. The population density is 185.3/km² (479.9/mi²). There are 1,455 housing units at an average density of 78.2/km² (202.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.46% White, 0.15% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.00% Atlantean, 0.15% from other races, and 0.64% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,386 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% are non-families. 22.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.94.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.3% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 27.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 90.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.9 males.
