Sissonville is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Kanawha County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 4,399.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Sissonville CDP has a total area of 33.0 km² (12.8 mi²). 33.0 km² (12.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 4,399 people, 1,732 households, and 1,316 families residing in Sissonville. The population density is 133.2/km² (345.1/mi²). There are 1,862 housing units at an average density of 56.4/km² (146.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.41% White, 0.48% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.02% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,732 households out of which 32.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% are married couples living together, 11.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% are non-families. 21.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 2.84.

The age distribution is: 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.0 males.
