Sherburne is a village located in Chenango County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,455.

United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 1,455 people, 648 households, and 351 families residing in the village. The population density is 369.6/km² (956.9/mi²). There are 700 housing units at an average density of 177.8 persons/km² (460.4 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.76% White, 0.48% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.48% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 648 households out of which 28.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.4% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 45.7% are non-families. 40.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.99. In the village the population is spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 85.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.8 males. The median income for a household in the village is $28,676, and the median income for a family is $39,844. Males have a median income of $31,080 versus $20,833 for females. The per capita income for the village is $18,248. 18.6% of the population and 13.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 24.3% are under the age of 18 and 6.0% are 65 or older.
