San Saba, Texas

San Saba is a town located in San Saba County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,637. It is the county seat of San Saba County6.

Demographics

\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 2,637 people, 1,008 households, and 680 families residing in the town. The population density is 565.6/km² (1,468.6/mi²). There are 1,177 housing units at an average density of 252.5/km² (655.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 78.54% White, 0.64% African American, 1.74% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 17.33% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. 31.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,008 households out of which 30.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 30.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.12. In the town the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 82.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $27,758, and the median income for a family is $31,582. Males have a median income of $24,207 versus $20,216 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,192. 19.6% of the population and 16.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 29.9% are under the age of 18 and 12.1% are 65 or older.
