Salina is a city located in Saline County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 45,679. It is the county seat of Saline County6.

1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 59.0 km² (22.8 mi²). 58.9 km² (22.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.


\nAs of the
census of 2000, there are 45,679 people, 18,523 households, and 11,873 families residing in the city. The population density is 775.9/km² (2,009.6/mi²). There are 19,599 housing units at an average density of 332.9/km² (862.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.76% White, 3.57% African American, 0.56% Native American, 1.96% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 3.78% from other races, and 2.32% from two or more races. 6.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 18,523 households out of which 31.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.98. In the city the population is spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 10.0% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.8 males.
